Term One Highlights, Part One

The highlights of term one for me were-

Meeting my new teacher, because I didn’t know who she was.
Doing the swimming sports, because I got to show Mum and Dad how good I am.
Going to the Aqua Gym, because I got much better at swimming.
Singing with Matua Te Haere.
Doing maths with Ms Chamley,
Learning about new things, like endangered animals.
Trying my best to win the Tryathlon.
Learning to sing in the choir.
Making new friends with Michael and others.
Trying out in the cycle race.
Making holiday cubes. It was my first time writing with my senses.

The highlights of Term One for me were-

Having a go at Jump Jam in the hall even though I didn’t get in the team. Jump Jam time is when I can get fit.
Having a go at the Tryathlon even though I didn't come first. I came fourth.
Going to the Aquagym and getting in to the Orange group, which is the group before the deep pool group.
Going to choir practices and singing the Michael Jackson song.

The highlights of Term One for me were-
Maths, because I learned lots of things like rounding numbers to the nearest ten.
Jump Jam, because it keeps me fit and healthy.
Making new friends. I made a new friend called Jayda. She’s in a different classroom to me.
Writing because sometimes we get to choose what we want to write about.
Reading, because I like doing research.

The highlight of Term One for me was making the cars.
We used fabric and lids and other sorts of things. First you had to draw a truck or a car. Then you had to choose some material or coloured paper. You had to cut the material or paper into the right shape and then stick them on some paper. Next you could stick buttons onto make it look cool.
I liked making the cars because I thought it was creative and fun.

The highlights of Term One for me were-
Swimming, because it makes you into a great swimmer.
The Tryathlon.
Going to Aquagym because you can practice how to swim.
Creating the Barbaloots.
Fitness, because you get to run fast.
Going to Choir because our teacher is a great singer. She is a number one star.
Making friends, because didn’t have lots of friends and now I do.

Happy Holidays

I'd like to wish everybody a happy holiday. I'm looking forward to doing some reading, sleeping, craft, and spending time with my family and friends.
We have had a wonderful term together in Room 16.

Orana Park Big Day Out

We had a wonderful experience at Orana Park yesterday. The children demonstrated perfectly why they deserved such an outing. Their behaviour was excellent and the Orana Park Educators commented about how knowledgeable and inquisitive the children were.
On returning to school we played Sleeping Lions and although I stopped the game after 3 or 4 minutes, I think the children would have managed to "be" sleeping lions until 3!We started to write an acrostic poem but had really all run out of puff before we finished it.

Our Big Day Out was at Orana Park!
Really fast flying fox.
Animals are cool in their own habitats.
Noisy gibbons.
Animals need your help.

We loved seeing the endangered animals.
I loved feeding the giraffes.
Lemurs don’t like water.
Darkness surrounded the kiwi habitat.
Louise taught us lots.
I will do my part to protect the animals.
Fish swam in the lake.
Endangered animals

Puddle of otters.
Amazing to see the lion cubs.
Rhinoceros horns are very heavy.
Kissing spider monkeys.

Swimming Sports

The Swimming Sports

It was a sunny morning in St Albans. The Year Three and Four classes were buzzing with excitement and nervous energy. Today was the day of the Swimming Sports! We boarded the busses and were off to Jellie Park.

Like a swarm of bees heading for the hive, the children went to change in the changing rooms. School uniforms, socks and shoes flew everywhere as the children readied themselves for the big event. They headed out into the pool area and settled by the pool.

Across the rippling waters the parents were beginning to gather. The excitement rose and so did the noise level. The width races were first.

PEEEP  “On your marks...” CRACK

The water was cold, and rippling from the other swimmers. Arms and legs powered through the water leaving a wake behind them. The crowd cheered and went wild. The swimmers were pushed on by their encouragement. Some people were first, some came second, third or fourth. Everyone tried their best.

If we thought the crowd had been loud up till now, we sure got a surprise when it came to the class relays! Room 16 was represented by Zachary, Kezia, Grace and Flynn in the water, and everyone else in the stands.  We were all proud when Room 16 won!

The length races were next and we all watched those swimmers with amazement and admiration as they tried their hardest to be the best. All the while the non-swimmers were having their own experience of being better than before in the shallow pool.

The Swimming Sports finished on a high note as Kakariki won the house relay. Whero came a close second followed by Kowhai and Kahurangi. St Albans Middle School was the ultimate winner on the day. The children displayed the values of Respect, Excellence, Community, Fun, Manaakitanga and Initiative. 

The Tryathlon

What a proud teacher I am this afternoon! Well done Room 16. You biked, ran and swam like champions. Actually, I only saw the swimming but if that's what you did when you were tired out, the rest must have been spectacular.

The Lorax

This Dr Seuss book is a classic tale of conservation and eco-awareness. We have been studying the story and drawing parallels with our lives. This is a photo of the Mural we have made. You will notice Truffula Trees, Bar-ba-loots, Swomee-Swans and Humming-Fish.
